Bourbon Baroque & Moving Collective present "Something Old, Something New"

Moving Collective, a Louisville-based organization designed to promote and keep contemporary dance alive in the Ohio Valley, and Bourbon Baroque, Louisville’s Period Instrumental Ensemble, present an evening length affair of Baroque Music and Contemporary Dance. The concert, entitled "Something Old, Something New" will take place on February 6th, 2010 at 8:00 PM. Both organizations are proud to have chosen the newly renovated Ursuline Arts Center for this collaborative performance, which is located at 3105 Lexington Road Bldg #5 on the campus of Sacred Heart Schools. Tickets are $20.00 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets are available by cash or check at the door. Fusing the unlikely combination of music from the 17th and 18th centuries with modern dance, Moving Collective and Bourbon Baroque will present 11 dances (10 premieres) choreographed by Louisville’s Theresa Bautista, John Cartwright, Joseph Cox, Kim Nygren Cox, Brian Grant, Marie-Elise Gates, and Jessica Underwood, Cincinnati’s Jeanne S. Mam-Luft of MamLuft&Co. Dance and Virginia’s Danah Bella of d a n a h b e l l a DanceWorks. The aforementioned choreographic works will be danced to music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Christoph Willibald Gluck, George Frideric Händel, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet, Johann Pachelbel, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Antonio Vivaldi.

 

Performing with the Bourbon Baroque ensemble will be featured vocal soloist, soprano Caroline Knight Drury. Caroline Knight Drury is hailed by The Courier-Journal as having a voice "light but firm, perfect in placement and pitch, every word absolutely clear and focused." Her recent portrayal of The Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church was received with high accolades. She holds a Masters of Music degree in vocal performance from the Manhattan School of Music and received a Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from the University of Louisville and was the premiere recipient of the Provost’s Award. She has performed the role of Masha with the Kentucky Opera and University of Louisville workshops of Ben Moore’s Enemies: A Love Story. Drury is featured regularly as a soprano soloist with the Choral Arts Society of Louisville, Louisville Bach Society, the Second Presbyterian Sanctuary Choir, the Louisville Orchestra, and Bourbon Baroque: Louisville’s Period Instrument Ensemble.
